Movember

Are you a pogonophobe? If so, you’ve probably already switched off your computer…

“Pognophobia: fear of beards. Really

Moustaches, on the other hand, are a force for good as this year’s “Movember” draws to a close. All over the world, men have been allowing their  lips to disappear. From the luxuriant to the wispy, the silky to the fluffy, it’s all in a good cause.

Inspired by the now familiar pink ribbon for breast cancer awareness, a group of Australians decided in 2003 to bring back the moustache as a symbol for male cancers. The idea took off and in 2009 over a quarter of a million “Mo Bros” and “Mo Sistas” (is your mind bogging too?) helping to raise £26m worldwide.

If you’d like to join in next year, the idea is simple: start the month clean-shaven, then from 1st November to the 30th, leave your upper lip to run wild. Or style it, if you must.

  1. My upper lip has been running wild since 1968 or thereabouts. I threatened to shave it a couple of years ago but my grand daughter said no. The reason being that “I wouldn’t be a grandpa.”

  2. Yey a month to forget the tash wax !! Guess I’ll have to wait till next year now x
