Sugar Momma

I was on the train on Tuesday evening when a young(ish) man started talking loudly into his mobile phone. Annoying at the best of times, but he had one of those conversations where you can’t help but listen. It went something like this:

“yeah, well, I’d like to come y’know… it’s just that I’m meeting that sugar momma I was telling you about…”

At this point there was an audible creak as the ears of the entire carriage pricked up.

“yeah… I’ve packed a shirt in case… y’know…”

A shirt but no underpants? No toothbrush?

“…she’ll probably buy me a new shirt if it goes well…”

Huh? What a slut! Can you imagine the reaction of the carriage if a woman was having that conversation?

“right… well… I have to go now…”

I think he realised that a carriage full of strangers had actually made eye contact and that the titter travelling around had something to do with his conversation. He was very quiet for the rest of the journey. I do hope he was a gentleman on his “date”, that she had a damn good time – and kept her credit card firmly in her purse.
