Let me be your inspiration… if you dare!

It’s not often that someone tells you you’ve inspired them, so when they do, it’s something you cherish. (Unless you’ve inspired them to run amok with a machete, but I guess that’s called something else).

My mate, Simon, is a fully paid up member of the Socialist Labour Party. I like to think he loves me almost as much as he despises my contrary politics, even when I call him a dinosaur. (But I could be wrong).

It just so happens that Simon is also known as Crayola: “Despotic leader of the band called sarandon” (his words). Indie rock group, Sarandon, recently released a new EP “Age of Reason”, available as a CD, a download or a coloured vinyl LP from their website. An energetic concept album, it includes a track with the following lyrics, inspired by moi.  Now, I ask you, since it seems my remark has inspired my friend to despair, should I be proud? Or very, very sorry?

dinosaur (our hero begins to wonder if there’s a reason to all of this): feeling so overblown the phone rings to let me know i’m alone why must i contemplate the stupid things i say please take the day away. dreaming away the waste and knowing i cannot take the pace why must i constantly awkwardly sing out of tune please take my voice away soon. hearing you call me dinosaur makes me question my foolish self even more.

Here’s a clip of Sarandon playing at the indietracks festival last year as a taster.
