My second Blog is now live!

I’ve always loved photography, but it never occurred to me to make it my career. Of course, back in the day it was a more scientific operation, with film and dark rooms and chemistry involved. Digital has made it accessible to me and I absolutely love it. It’s not just about making pretty pictures (although I do!) or meeting so many lovely people and being invited to their weddings (although I am!).

Very few people like having their photograph taken, even youngsters who have grown up in the MySpace age of instant image capture. Yet we increasingly seem to buy in to the post-modern idea that if it hasn’t been photographed (or announced on Facebook!) then it hasn’t really happened. So despite the fact that family snaps often make us look horrendous (wrong angles, bad lighting, bad hair day) we are still intrigued by the idea that the camera can make us look good. And in the right hands, it can!

There’s something about the transformative power of photography that resonates with me and I like nothing better than seeing the face of someone I’ve “shot” light up when they see their images.

“Is that really me?” are words I hear often and it makes me so happy to be in a position where I can help to show people how beautiful they really are. Because everyone has something beautiful about them and I am privileged to be able to see it through my lens. Living “life through a lens” is a bit like wearing rose-tinted glasses – wonderful!

Anyway, I digress – one of the reasons I’ve cut down to one post a week here on project50 is that I need to concentrate on building my business, especially as I have been moving into weddings this year. To this end, I’ve just launched a new blog called Celebrate Life! which focuses on all my commercial ventures, especially my photography business. Click on the link if you’re interested – I’d love to have your support there too.

Until next week… x
