I need a hat!

One happy girl

Our lovely daughter, Katy, phoned to announce her engagement last weekend, sending a ray of sunshine through the family. I’m ridiculously excited and find myself surrounded by a pile of glossy wedding magazines, a new folder of wedding-y internet bookmarks and a sudden interest in vaguely ridiculous hats.

The boy who's hit the jackpot!

Frank, her intended, phoned to pre-warn us he was about to propose (Presumably so that we could share his butterflies!) which gave Husband of my Heart the chance to give the lad his blessing. Katy came home for a flying visit today to look at venues near home so I now have a stack of brochures with price lists designed to make the stoutest heart stutter.

It’s just so lovely to witness love in full bloom (stirring some fairly ancient memories, it has to be said) and I am so looking forward to welcome Frank officially into the family.

It’s not going to be a long engagement: daughter number 2 will only be in the country for a limited window of time in 2012 and her position as chief bridesmaid is non-negotiable. So it looks like the next few months are going to be quite a whirlwind, though a happy one.

I find it rather marvellous that the young still want to marry. These two are opting for a Civil Ceremony rather than a religious one, so the emphasis of the wedding is the social and personal contract rather than a religious rite. A wedding is the start of a new family and sacred in so many ways. I’m so proud of these two that they want to take this leap of faith and plan a life together.

Congratulations Katy and Frank. Happy Saturday all!

  1. Congratulations to you, Katy and your family. I hope you’re not going to turn in to a mother-of-the-bride-zilla! 😉

    • Thanks, Stewart. Moi? Any kind of -zilla is beyond me 😀

  2. What lovely news, Jo, I’m so happy for you all. xxx

  3. what wonderful news! Good luck finding the perfect hat 😀

  4. Thank you, WH and mamaduck. Still smiling (despite discovering what weddings cost these days!)
