The Saturday Interview 34 – Sarah

Jo Blackwell Photography, portrait photographer NorthamptonshireFor teacher, Sarah, turning 50 has been a time to open herself up to new experiences and daring to do more.

“A week’s job-shadowing in Granada took me out of my comfort zone,” she admits, but the confidence she gained from the experience gave her to courage to apply for – and obtain – a deputy headship. Now Sarah is attending night school and has bought her first ever new car.

“I think you learn what you don’t want over the years, and that can make you more forthright and confident,” she tells me.

She’s developed a small group of close friends that have helped her through the inevitable ups and downs of life. Newly married, she is striding into the future with confidence in her personal life too.

“I saw the singer, Katy Perry, being interviewed on a talk show, and she said to a fellow interviewee: ‘don’t go where you’re tolerated, go where you’re celebrated.’ That made a big impression on me. And that’s exactly what I intend to do with my life now.”

I think that’s a great sentiment with which to start a weekend, don’t you?
